11th Global Addiction Conference, October 2016, Open for Registrations

Industry: Healthcare

Alcohol, opioids, synthetic drugs and non-drug addictions are just some of the main topics to be discussed at this October's Global Addiction Conference, held in Venice.

London, UK (PRUnderground) September 14th, 2016

The Global Addiction Conference has for years provided experts with a comprehensive overview of the international issues surrounding drug dependency and its treatment. The conference is primarily dedicated to improving the treatment of patients, although such treatment is as always affected by broader issues.

This year, we feel the conference is of utmost importance. The political landscape of the EU is particularly turbulent, and is causing major changes in the world of addiction. Political and economic turmoil, combined with conflict in the Middle East, have led to an influx of opiates into Europe. These factors, along with a rise in drug related crime rates across the continent due to this pressure, have had ramifications for drug dependency in Europe. The world is currently experiencing some of the most divisive changes in modern history. Crises lead to addictions, and historically the relationship between turmoil, poverty, and drugs cannot be disputed. The current situation must be discussed, and our conference will facilitate this.

Economic issues have led to the closure of rehabilitation centres across Europe, the resulting rise in cases of HIV and Hepatitis C are as obvious as they are troubling. In such difficult times, losing vital centres has caused significant problems.

The conference will be held in Venice, Italy on the 2nd October, at the beautiful NH Laguna Palace Hotel.

Keynote speeches from leading figures such as: Dr. A Kastelic, Dr. M. Rus and Dr. C. Ford will review policy aspects of addiction. Alongside this there will be a wide breadth of sessions, platforms and symposiums ensuring that the full field of addiction is comprehensively discussed. In addition to opioids and drug policy, the increasingly important subject of non-prescription drug dependence will be reviewed. This is becoming a vast problem for the developed world, and is an issue which is only just coming to light.

The conference is CME accredited, and will be attended by speakers from: ANRS, ASAM, IDHDP, the U.N, WHO, EMCDDA, SEEA, ALICE RAP, and the Pompidou group
