2017 CCH Film Festival to Feature New Tech Demos, a Job Fair, Panel Discussions, and Student Works

The 2017 CCH Film Festival, a free event that will present original works by some of Columbia College Hollywood’s top students/graduates, will be held on 10/13 & 10/14.

The 2017 CCH Film Festival, a free event that will highlight and honor original film/video content by some of Columbia College Hollywood’s top students and graduates, will be held at the newly-renovated Columbia College Hollywood at 18618 Oxnard Street in Los Angeles on October 13 and 14.  Along with the screenings, the event will also feature presentations by industry professionals, demonstrations of products by leading manufacturers, networking mixers, employment opportunities, and door prizes/raffles.

“Whether you’re currently working in the film industry or you’re looking to begin your professional journey, the CCH Film Festival will be an excellent resource for you,” says Stephen Herring, Director of Career Development & Alumni Relations at Columbia College Hollywood.  “The opportunities to learn, expand your network, get hired, and enjoy the creations of our talented students and graduates will be vast – and the chance to check out new products and services from some of the film production industry’s premier companies will also be pretty cool.”

The 2017 CCH Film Festival will feature a comprehensive offering of presentations and activities, including:

  • A keynote address (10/13) by Richard Tanne, ‘08 Columbia College Hollywood graduate and writer/director of the award-winning and critically acclaimed “Southside by You” (Lionsgate/Miramax)
  • A keynote address (10/14) by actor Daniel Roebuck ("The Fugitive", "The Man In The High Castle", "Lost", "Matlock")
  • Screening of “Southside by You”
  • Screenings of short form content by Columbia College Hollywood students and alumni in four categories:  Leading Ladies, Comedic Chops, Major Dramas, and Visual Delights
  • A “Job Market” for prospective hires featuring representatives from Fox; the Commercial Directors Diversity Program; Motion Picture Editors Guild, Local 700; and Sitebridge
  • Trade show exhibitions by Film Independent, Red Digital Cinema, NBCUniversal Lightblade, NewFilmmakersLA (NFMLA), Sony, Wrapal, and the Commercial Directors Diversity Program
  • Demos by Red Digital Cinema, Sony, and NBCUniversal Lightblade
  • An awards ceremony for the top three screened films selected by Columbia College Hollywood faculty and entertainment industry judges

Panels at the Festival will include:

  • “How to Find Your Audience:  Standing Out in the New Media Landscape” – featuring moderator Julia Alexa Miller/Validus Productions and panelists Daniel Inskeep & Rachel Gulotta/Mango Street, Sven Pape/This Guy Edits, and Jonathan London/Geekscape
  • “Staying Afloat: How to Survive as a Working Actor in L.A. Without Losing Your Mind (Or Housing)” – featuring moderator Julie Janney and panelists Behzad Dabu (“How to Get Away with Murder”, “The Chi”), Goya Robles (“Get Shorty”), Sofia Vassilieva (“Medium”, “My Sister’s Keeper”), and Ellie Reed (“Girlboss”, “Two Broke Girls”, “Chicago P.D.”, “Betrayal”)
  • “Finance and Distribution:  How to Get the Money to Make Your Film!” – featuring moderator Deborah Gilels/La Media Consultants and panelists Larry Laboe/NewFilmmakers LA (NFMLA), Valerie McCaffrey/casting director, Caytha Jentis/independent filmmaker, and Will Raee/filmmaker and show producer
  • “Breaking Into the Industry:  Insider Perspectives into Building a Successful Career in Entertainment” – featuring moderator Larry Laboe/NewFilmmakers LA (NFMLA) and panelists Alex Ferrari/writer & director, Alex Portin/Company 3, Ben Lopez/NALIP, and Demian Lichtenstein/EQ Media.

The 2017 CCH Film Festival is sponsored by Wrapal, Final Draft, Avid, NewFilmmakers LA (NFMLA), LA Femme International Film Festival, The Valley Film Festival, and LuvThat Entertainment.  It will take place at Columbia College Hollywood (18618 Oxnard Street in Los Angeles) on October 13 and 14.
