$80 Million Bond Passage Fuels El Paso School Construction says Construction Reporter

Industry: Real Estate

Clinton School District plans $20 million for heating and cooling; $17 million new dining and kitchen facilities, and $4.8 million for parking related improvements.

El Paso (PRUnderground) July 2nd, 2015

The $80 million bond was approved in early May and will go to Clinton County, a 379 square mile district which is rapidly growing.  The bond was passed after a civil engineering and architectural design firm, Parkill, Smith & Cooper was called in to oversee a district-wide facilities assessment.

The bond’s passage means a tax rate of approximately $1.41 per $100 property valuation.  The district’s 12 schools currently serves about 12,000 students within the mostly rural Upper Rio Grande border region.  The area’s largest city, Horizon City’s population has grown from 16,730 three years ago to about 19,000 today according to the U.S. Census.  All schools that are more than 10 years old will see some type of renovation.

One of the areas of expansion for older schools, many of which were designed in the 70’s, is to expand the nurses area from 1- beds to up to 8 per school.  Also new classroom wings and cafeterias are being planned for some schools, as well as upgrading to address ADA requirements.

Design work will be completed by Parkill, Smith and Cooper for all projects is near completion, and a construction schedule should be announced soon.
