Grandma Geny Heywood has written books that introduce children to the joy of reading, the thrill of developing the mind by creating their own authorship.
Niagara Falls, Ontario (PRUnderground) January 20th, 2010“PROTO: Published by AuthorHouse.com What do you do when a dinosaur is born in your garden?”, Is the launching of a first in Children’s Literature. This story about a dinosaur born in the author’s garden is an introduction to a series of children’s interactive publications created specifically with the understanding that every child is an intellectual waiting to be discovered.
Books are available in 3 languages at the present (English, Spanish and French) with hopes of many other language translations to come. Children who take time to look up big words, who are not afraid to tackle long sentences, children who are curious about their world and who love reading will especially enjoy interacting with the author. In her everlasting efforts to promote literacy, she invites the readers to participate, to give her ideas, to write their own stories, talk about their hopes for the future, and tell her about their disappointments, their pains and their joys.
PROTO and the other books that follow in this series are being created in collaboration with children’s own enthusiastic ideas and discoveries about science and other branches of studies. This is an ideal way to introduce children to the joy of reading, the thrill of developing the mind by creating their own authorship. Children will most certainly enjoy seeing their name, their thoughts and their ideas in print.
The second book “Tirano” is expected to be available by March 1, 2010. A third book involving a couple of other loveable beasts will complete the PROTO series in which so many children names and ideas will be found among the pages. After the PROTO series, a second set of books will be almost entirely created by children themselves. They do research, write stories and send them in to the author of this project. The young writer’s name is used either as the writer of the story or as the main character – the choice is entirely up to the child. As the interim publisher, Grandma Geny Heywood does not edit, correct nor change anything. Who knows better how to tell a story to a child than another child…?
The original PROTO series has been created to encourage values in young readers: Golden Rule, thriftiness, economy, dignity of labor, equality, fairness, the love to and the care of animals, also appreciation of history, coping with life’s emergencies, etc…
For the last year, a sculpture of PROTO has been on permanent display at The Niagara Gallery Gallery located at 4323 Queen Street in Niagrara Falls, Ontario, Canada. This sculpture was made by the author to illustrate the launching of her PROTO series. It greatly inspired children to develop a love of scientific discovery and learning.
Heywood dedicates herself to creating the best interactive children’s books. She takes advice from sprouting experts in her creations. They tell her that her writings are suitable to a wide range of readers, aged 5 to 14 in general.
Her prize critic is a young scientist friend of hers, David Zhang. He has always been dedicated to scientific thoughts and ideas. Even at the young age of seven, David was already explaining to adults the full details of atomic energy and other scientific endeavors. Now at 13, David can certainly inspire children to discover how science and other knowledge would enrich their lives.
(The author was inspired to launch such a novel way of teaching when she spent 2 years in poor barrios of South America, working with young ones and trying to help them better their lives. She was amazed at how well the poor street children learned from one another. She was also surprised at how much intelligence, resourcefulness and ingenuity they all possessed.
A huge pool of brain power is lost, wasted, simply because we do not give a chance to our children to write their own books. Adults do not really know how to write for children, only children know how to reach the mind of another child.
