New generation redefines meaning of “brave heroes” as several new recruits prepare to honor their fathers lost during the September 11, 2001 attacks; graduating class includes two sons of one fallen firefighter and son/daughter of another.

A&J Fire Extinguisher, a Brooklyn, New York-based business providing a plethora of products and services in the areas of firefighting equipment, testing, inspections, maintenance and more, recently applauded the 13 children of fallen 9/11 firefighters who will be joining the FDNY, all being hailed as a new generation redefining the meaning of “brave heroes” as they prepare to honor their fathers who were murdered during the infamous September 11 terror attacks.

On the eve of the 18th anniversary of the attacks, FDNY Academy representatives made the announcement that 12 men and one woman – whose fathers lost their lives during active rescue or by way of illness linked to recovery work at Ground Zero – would be graduating with the scheduled class, one which includes siblings in the form of two sons of one fallen firefighter and the son/daughter of another.

The historic group of at least 16 “legacy” probationary firefighters also includes the son of an NYPD officer killed on 9/11, as well as the sons of two firefighters who died due to Ground Zero recovery efforts. According to FDNY representatives, this class boasts the most “legacy” members since 9/11, though dozens of other sons – and one daughter – have previously joined the force.

“Bravery runs deep in these extraordinary families who have sacrificed so much for our city,” says A&J Fire’s Sonny Falack. “We’re proud of the commitment these ‘probies’ have already demonstrated to the department, and we know that the FDNY believes this represents the ideal tribute to their dads. To say that it’s quite inspirational to hear that they’re following in their fathers’ footsteps is an understatement.”

Among those joining the FDNY who were related to firefighters killed as a result of the 9/11 attack in Manhattan are Matthew Jovic (son of Anthony Jovic), Anthony Ragaglia (son of Leonard Ragaglia), Marc Asaro (son of Carl Asaro), Robert Tilearcio Jr. (son of Robert Tilearcio, who died last October of brain cancer linked to 9/11) and Peter J. Carroll (son of Peter Carroll).
