Andre Akinyele feat. EFFIGY Single

André Akinyele announces new album entitled Telegram Mews to be released November 3, 2017 inspired by Drake, Frank Ocean, and Maxwell with hints of the soul essence of Marvin Gaye. The first single “Compassion” featuring EFFIGY, a rising hip-hop/rap artist from Ithaca, NY, brings Effigy’s mastermind genius of flow and lyricism in the likes of hip-hop artists Lil Wayne and Earl Sweatshirt. Like a smooth and precisely constructed masterpiece, the pristine vocal twists and turns result in “Compassion” being interlaced with sleek production.

“Compassion” arrives Friday, August 18, 2017 on iTunes, Amazon, YouTube and the Spotify streaming service and gives fans a taste of what’s to come from his forthcoming new album Telegram Mews, slated for release on November 3, 2017. Akinyele states that the single’s “title says it all, as much through atmosphere, and as it does with words.” He explained that the song’s “choruses drift through conscious revelations.”

Between 2012 and 2016 Akinyele released three albums, a remix EP, and authored a book. 2012’s The Potomac Syndrome was a return to his funk roots and a return to his Prince influenced sound, along with a nod to Lenny Kravitz. It was hailed as one of his best efforts after performing jazz for a long period with his band Gemini Soul as the bandleader and bassist. His follow-up, 2015’s Metal Skin and Ivory Birds questioned the world where no one or nothing was off limits and included the passionate cover of Tori Amos’ “Crucify”, taken from her 1992 Little Earthquakes album. Also that year, he co-authored a book titled Elliptical: The Music of Meshell Ndegeocello to rave reviews. Next, his 2016’s The Unauthorized Playlist brought an ol’ skool vibe using underground hip-hop, funk, and futuristic sounds to explore the madness of keeping secrets, the anger of friendship betrayal, and the rise of self-empowerment, for which the album took cues from contemporary hip-hop, r&b, and “neo-soul” visionaries such as Pharrell Williams, Erykah Badu, and D’Angelo to create a distinctive consciousness.

Almost two decades into his music career, André Akinyele remains a magnetic and relevant presence in the music industry.

“Releasing this new forthcoming album has been an emotional rollercoaster, as the industry is constantly changing, and being independent is even more challenging. I’m an artist/musician that loves making music and as long as there is an outlet, I’ll continue, but with caution!” Akinyele stated. The pop/r&b/soul singer also stated, “Compassion begins today!”
