Author Tami Gaines is announcing the relaunch of her book, Preemie Parents: 26 Ways To Grow With Your Premature Baby, to coincide with National Prematurity Month In November. The book is available at all major booksellers and at www.preemieparentsbook.com

Preemie Parents is an A to Z guide to inspire all parents of premature babies. In the book, Gaines draws on her own real-life journey with her premature twins to teach parents of the more than 15 million babies born around the world each year how to transform the difficult realities of the neonatal intensive care unit (known as the “NICU”) into opportunities for tremendous spiritual and personal growth.

The then-married mother of two experienced a surprise pregnancy with twins, and had to deal with a divorce as a direct result. The divorce-related stress caused Gaines to go into pre-term labor at 16 weeks, and she was then confined to bed rest. Her twins were born by emergency C-section at exactly six months. Her daughter stayed in the NICU for four months. Her son was hospitalized for 18 months, transferring from the NICU, to the PICU, to a rehabilitation hospital before coming home with a trach, ventilator, oxygen, and g-tube.

The practical book offers a wealth of insight in order to serve as a resource for parents, caregivers, and healthcare providers. “One of the core tenets of the book is the principle of P.E.A.C.E.,” Gaines says, “P stands for the Power of intention; E stands for energy; A signifies that All things will move into balance eventually; C means that Caring for yourself precedes caring for anybody else; and E says that Everything is exactly as the universe intended it to be.”

Gaines has risen to national prominence as a preemie parent. She is the mother of four children (including the preemie twins), a marketing and business strategist, and motivational speaker. She has an M.B.A. from Columbia University.

The twins today are 14 years old. Her daughter, Bria, has virtually zero issues stemming from her premature birth. Her son, Trey, remains oxygen-dependent, still eats though a g-tube, and has cognitive impairment, autism, ADHD, and behavioral difficulties. “Trey is a warrior and he’s inspired everyone who knows our family and our story,” Gaines says, “If Trey can make it against all odds, then everybody can make it.”
