Jennifer Flad, executive director for a nonprofit working with special needs adults, and husband Dirk Flad were looking for an investment opportunity that would provide a stable income in addition to their full-time jobs. The Baldwin County, Ala., residents researched various franchises and other investment options and eventually found that Two Maids & A Mop provided exactly the opportunity they were looking for.

“We met with the executives at Two Maids and immediately loved the family atmosphere of the corporation,” says Jennifer. “We liked the potential growth opportunities with the company and thought the absentee owner model was the perfect fit for what we were looking for.”

“Absentee owners” of Two Maids franchises provide the monetary investment while Two Maids executives strategically pair him/her with a qualified sweat equity partner who manages day-to-day operations to ensure the franchise runs effectively. Franchisors can also choose the “owner-operator” model, which is for individuals who have the investment capital needed as well as a passion to run their own business. Although she is an absentee owner, Jennifer still maintains weekly communication with her managers and visits the locations each month.

After much deliberation between executives and the Flads, it was decided that the Flads would operate the Fort Walton, Fla., Two Maids location and also take over the current Pensacola, Fla., location, which was the original site Two Maids CEO and Founder Ron Holt opened in 2003. The Flads have owned these two locations since September 2015 and have plans to open a third franchise in Baldwin County, Ala. in late 2016.

“We are so thankful that Ron trusted us to take over ownership of the original location,” said Jennifer. “Owning these two locations has truly been a blessing, and we couldn’t be happier that we chose Two Maids for our investment.”

Taking over these franchises gave the Flads full access to replicate the successful business model created by Holt, including the company’s “Pay for Performance” plan, a proprietary formula that determines employee wages based on customer feedback and is the only one of its kind in the cleaning industry. With this plan, customers are asked to rate employees on a scale from 1 to 10, which directly determines employees’ total compensation level.

“Our innovative ‘Pay for Performance’ plan has always been our trademark,” says Ron. “There is absolutely no greater incentive for employees to perform at a higher level than tying compensation to customer feedback.”

Two Maids & A Mop’s unique approach to its sales and marketing process further allows its franchise partners to quickly control a significant amount of their local market share.

“The best thing for us is that Two Maids & A Mop provides a stable, steady income,” says Dirk. “Regardless of changes in the economy, the income stays consistent.”

Two Maids & A Mop is the nation’s second fastest growing cleaning company and recently landed on Inc. Magazine’s list of 10 Franchises That Swept the Nation in 2015, as well as earning a spot on Inc. Magazine’s 2015 list of 5,000 fastest growing private companies in America for the third consecutive year. Two Maids ranked No. 782 on the list, making them the second fastest growing cleaning company in America, the fifth fastest growing company in Birmingham and ninth in Alabama.
