Industry: Fashion & Accessories

A new fashion line offering an elegant range of maxi skirts and tops has been launched providing customers with high quality ethical fashion made by local refugee women.

Chicago (PRUnderground) September 23rd, 2016

Sana (name changed to protect privacy) moved to Chicago in October 2015 and is currently working with blue meets blue. “I used to work in sewing factories back home, I love sewing and have a passion for it. When I moved here the resettlement agency tried to help me find a job but the only job they were able to help me find was one that was 1.5 hours away in a meat slaughtering factory. I have a sick mother at home that I tend to, and can not leave for an extended period of time. I love working with blue meets blue, it reminds me of home and connects me to so many other great women.”

blue meets blue has 5 goals:

1-     Create beautiful fashion pieces that make those who purchase it feel and look amazing!

2-     Empower women by providing them with fair employment and an opportunity to support their families.

3-     Create a sense of community amongst newcomers. Because of our gatherings, they have one another to share their stories and hopes with. It has created a network of women with common goals and shared values.

4-     Steer away from the fast fashion industry and create clothing with meaning. It means something to the people who made it and something to those who will purchase it.

5-     Eliminate a lot of the misunderstanding about the refugee crisis by spreading awareness and love through fashion.

blue meets blue launched in August 2016 with launch galas scheduled in Chicago, Arizona, and Florida. In 2014 they started looking for ways to support recently arrived refugee women to help them find jobs in the United States. Through support from the Syrian Community Network in Chicago and their grassroots work, blue meets blue was able to build a team of women who are skilled in making the highest quality fashion.

blue meets blue co-founder Shahd Alasaly says,” Our passion is to empower women, because of their unique roles as mothers and heads of their households it is necessary that they are able to find dignity through work and are able to support their children. It is also important that they are able to start their new lives amongst a community of other women who have similar experiences. We hope to spread the word about blue meets blue so others can also help in supporting the initiative and these lovely ladies.”

Products are available at www.bluemeetsblue.com.

Launch Galas:

February 2017: Phoenix, AZ

March 2017: Chicago, IL

May 2017: Tampa, FL
