Fans of sculpture and fine art are sure to be interested in the latest Serpentine Gallery Pavilion installation at Kensington Gardens.

London (PRUnderground) June 7th, 2012

The arrival of the eagerly anticipated London 2012 Olympics is getting ever closer, and the capital is marking the spectacle with a host of amazing events. It is not just the sporting arena that will benefit from the world’s biggest athletics competition coming to the city, and followers of all kinds of cultural activity will be able to find something to enjoy when they pay their visit to one of Europe’s most popular destinations.

Fans of sculpture and fine art, for example, are sure to be interested in the latest Serpentine Gallery Pavilion installation, which this year will form part of the Cultural Olympiad’s London 2012 Festival. Since the turn of the century, prominent figures have been invited to construct a ‘pavilion’ in the Kensington Gardens; this latest project is being undertaken by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and the renowned Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.

The sprawling 2012 pavilion is, in part, a tribute to the previous eleven projects, with one column representing the work of each artist. These columns, along with a twelfth signifying the latest construct, all support a platform which is raised 1.4 metres into the air.

With a wide variety of cheap and free events such as this one taking place, as well as cheap accommodation in London available from the LSE, summer 2012 is surely the best of times to visit the capital. Our London hostels can provide guests with a place to stay that is both convenient and comfortable, with our high quality rooms being based in various locations throughout the city centre.
