Commander Sylvester J. Hendricks’ American Legion Post 2091 in Chicago has a temporary location in a church building.  That’s about to change.  Thanks to a building, gifted to the Legion by a private donor and door and window guards donated by DAWGS for use during the building rehabilitation –American Legion Post 2091 will have a brand new location.

The new location for the Legion Post, at 247 95th Street is strategically located near the Pullman Historic District and the 95th Street Terminal.  DAWGS will be employing veterans to assist with the door and window guards installation.

Steve Werner, Director of Business Development at DAWGS comments “We are very pleased to take part in the re-building of the American Legion Post 2091.  It is not often we get the chance to give back to the veterans who have given so much for us.”

The DAWGS installation for the new location, broke ground on Thursday, April 30th, 2015, with the target for the rehabilitation to be completed by the end of 2015.

The new Legion Post is located in Alderman Howard Brookins Jr’s 21st Ward . In fact, he may not readily admit it, but the Alderman was the force behind marrying Legion Post 2091, in need of a new location, with the owner of the donated abandoned building.  The result – a win/win for the Legion Post and the community.

Alderman Brookins comments “The property donated to the Legion Post was non-performing and run down, there is now an opportunity to turn the property around for a great use.  Also, with the recent improvements to the 95th Street corridor, the location is easy for all to access via public transportation.

When asked about DAWGS role in the renovation the Alderman noted “The steel guards from DAWGS will eliminate the pilfering and criminal activities that a vacant building tends to attract.  I wish more companies would give back to the communities and the veterans in the way DAWGS has demonstrated.”
