Dr. Carl Levan Joins Aita’s Advisory Board

Industry: Non Profit & Charity

Washington, D.C. (PRUnderground) February 26th, 2014

The Advancing Investments & Trade in Africa (“AITA”) is pleased to announce that Dr. Carl LeVan has joined our Advisory Board.

Dr. LeVan is an Assistant Professor in the School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C. His forthcoming book, Dictators, Democracy and African Development: the Political Economy of Good Governance in Nigeria (Cambridge University Press) explains two categories of public policy over half a century. His articles have appeared in top academic journals, including Governance, Africa Today, Democratization, and Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding.

Prior to receiving his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California—San Diego, Dr. LeVan worked in the United States Congress, and then as a technical advisor to Nigeria’s National Assembly. Currently, he publishes the blog Development4Security at carllevan.com and tweets @Dev4Security.

On his new advisory role, Dr. LeVan commented, “AITA thoughtfully operates at the intersection between Africa’s innovating private sector and its governance reformers. I am excited about contributing to dialogue in Washington and beyond, and engaging a new generation of thinking about politics and economics. Trade policy and investment need to be embedded within development goals and social progress, and AITA is committed to that broader view of Africa’s economies.”

Adjoa Linzy Esquire, Founder & Board Chair of AITA, said, “We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. LeVan to AITA’s Advisory Board. Dr. LeVan will be a strong asset to AITA’s leadership team. As an expert in African political institutions, democratization, and political development, Dr. LeVan understands that economic and political reforms must go hand in hand. Having lived in Washington, D.C. for several years and worked in the United States Congress, Dr. LeVan will be invaluable as AITA looks to bring international development experts, business professionals, and members of the African diaspora together in an effort to establish sustainable economic development in Africa. We look forward to his contributions in the coming years.”
