EPAC Environmental Services Poised and Ready After Backup Power for Nursing Homes Signed into Law

Industry: Environment

After the devastating impact of Hurricane Irma last year, and its deadly toll on nursing home residents, a new law has been signed by Florida Governor Rick Scott. The legislation will require all nursing homes and assisted-care facilities to have enough fuel on hand, as well as a working generator, to keep facilities 81 degrees Fahrenheit or lower for a minimum of four days.

This is after temperatures at facilities last year ran as high as 108.3 degrees Fahrenheit. As of January of 2018, over 100 nursing homes, and more than 130 assisted-living facilities, have upgraded to the necessary equipment.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, as well as the lead up to Governor Scott signing this law, EPAC Environmental Services, Inc. has received a flood of inquiries into its services. It appears that environmental companies are poised and ready to assist these facilities for growth in the wake of this latest piece of legislation. EPAC, as well as others, may find that it leads to a growth in the business.

Stephanie Voris, Head of Business Development for EPAC, had the following to say about the law, “Governor Scott’s legislation is absolutely imperative to protecting Florida’s senior citizens and disabled community. The tragedy last year should never have happened. Now, with more safeguards in place, it should never happen again.”

EPAC, founded in 1987, has been providing South Florida businesses with a wealth of environmental services in the thirty-years between then and now.
