Discover contrasting Moroccan sights – combining the country’s traditional highlights with one of the most spectacular but little visited areas of the Atlas mountains – on a 14-day Morocco: Atlas to the Atlantic guided walking holiday courtesy of HF Holidays.
In addition to taking in the magic of Marrakech – with its souks, stalls, hammams and tanneries – and the sleepy white walled UNESCO town of Essaouria, guests travel into the heart of the High Atlas and spend four nights in Ait Bougamez – Happy Valley – where fruit orchards and pasture land nestle between stunning snow capped mountains.
This region is rich with tradition and Berber culture and guests enjoy village walks through the flower fields of Agouti, follow mule trails that ascend gently for fantastic views over the Southern High Atlas towards the Sahara as well as lunch with a Berber family.
Other highlights of activity holidays in the region include the famous waterfalls of Cascades d’Ouzoud and walking through the forested gorge in search of its resident wild macaque monkeys; the pomegranate and cactus-cloaked slopes of the Demnate hills, plus two nights in a Bedouin style luxury camp with walks – accompanied by camels and ‘camelteers’ – through coastal sand dunes and villages.
Available with two departures in 2013 – 13 May and 21 October – the cost is £1695 per person, land-only or £1995 inclusive of return Gatwick flights and transfers.
These twin-share prices also include 13 nights’ mainly full board accommodation (including riads, converted Kasbahs and two luxury camping), the full programme of guided walks led by specialist local guides and an HF Holidays’ walks leader, sightseeing and entrance fees, plus travel by air-conditioned coach or minibus.
