FileMaker, Inc. and 42 Silicon Valley Launch Initiative to Expand Education Access and Build Developer Talent

Industry: Education

Study-to-workforce program teaches students valuable coding skills without taking on debt

Fremont, CA (PRUnderground) April 17th, 2018

FileMaker, an Apple subsidiary, and computer programming school 42 Silicon Valley announced today the launch of an innovative program to make education and careers in IT accessible to students from all walks of life.

FileMaker has teamed up with 42 to tackle education access, student debt and the skills gap while also building and growing developer talent.

FileMaker’s extensive business partner network relies on a strong community of FileMaker developers to develop custom apps for thousands of clients across industries. The new 42-FileMaker program will offer students a small stipend after the first six months of study for the following five months as they complete the 42 portion of their training and one month of FileMaker Platform training. After the training period, students can apply to become paid software engineering interns at a FileMaker Business Alliance (FBA) partner.

After a highly successful trial period, FileMaker and 42 are expanding the program and plan to train more students per year to be eligible for hire by FBA partners. 42 uses merit-based admissions, doesn’t charge tuition, offers free accommodations, and is open 24/7, 365 days a year. Participating students don’t need any prior experience in coding or development. As a result, programs at 42 are one of the most diverse tech communities in California’s Bay Area.

“42 is a perfect fit for us, not just because of their programs, but because of the kinds of students that comprise the 42 community,” said Brad Freitag, vice president of worldwide sales, FileMaker, Inc. “They’ve got grit, they’re creative, curious and entrepreneurial in spirit: the essence of the FileMaker developer community.”

“I want anyone to be able to come to 42, work hard, succeed, and move into good IT careers,” said Kwame Yamgnane, co-founder and managing director, 42. “Our program with FileMaker is opening more doors for more people, which makes this quite the opportunity for those who can’t afford or don’t like the traditional education system.”
