Films for Action is hosting a new series of free films and discussions at The Showroom Cinema aimed at those who’ve had enough of big budget, Hollywood action movies, rom-coms and superheros, and who’d like to see something that inspires them to think about the problems of the world, rather than escape from them.
The first film in the series is the award-winning Crossroads: Labour Pains of a New Worldview at 8pm on Friday, 5th September. This thought-provoking documentary addresses the nature of global human society. It asks why a few US bankers can cause a global financial meltdown. It asks what has changed in the world to make us all so fundamentally connected.
The film shows that the answer is a complex conundrum and features theories from innovative thinkers in biology, psychology, science, business, culture and media. Powerful and beautifully shot, it suggests that if we change the way we think about ourselves it will lead to a change in our culture.
In a world that has just had The Expendables III inflicted upon it, this film is a breath of fresh air. It has already won a string of prizes, including the Free Speech Award, Accolade Competition, La Indie Film Festival, Byron Bay International Film Festival and Green Unplugged Film Festival. It also has a growing reputation as an underground hit.
Whether you think the film is naïve, utopian, over-optimistic, hopeful, inspiring or life-changing, it will challenge how you see the world and give you at least some respite from Sly Stallone. The discussion afterwards will be a chance to tell us what you think.
