Genital Herpes without Symptoms? Mothers Still Endanger Their Babies; CBCD Reviews the Evidence

Industry: Health & Fitness

Mothers with asymptomatic genital herpes (HSV-2) can infect their babies. (1) The CBCD reviews the evidence and recommends two natural HSV remedies.

“Infected with the genital herpes virus (HSV-2)? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” –  Greg Bennett, CBCD

Most expecting mothers with an asymptomatic genital herpes infection (an infection with no symptoms) don’t even know they are infected. WebMD says that “The vast majority – between 75% and 90% – don’t know they are infected because they don’t get, or don’t notice, herpes sores on their genitals.” (2) Moreover, “nearly all the time, these women had no obvious sign of herpes infection while they were actively shedding virus.” (2) Because of this, these women can unknowingly pass HSV to their unborn children in the womb. HSV-2 can also infect babies if mothers give birth vaginally. The CBCD urges expectant mothers to get tested for genital herpes (HSV-2) whether they have symptoms or not. This is important since, as Dr. Michelle Williams wrote, “Genital HSV infection occurring during early pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of spontaneous abortion, intrauterine growth restriction, preterm labor and congenital herpes.” (3) Dr. Williams works for the Hurley Group Primary Care Centres in London. In addition to getting tested for genital herpes, the CBCD recommends that infected women take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR to help the immune system target the latent HSV-2. However, the CBCD also recommends that infected women stop taking these products before getting pregnant, and then start taking them again after delivery of the baby.

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that women who are planning a pregnancy, and who suspect they may have a genital herpes (HSV-2) infection, take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The formula of these natural antiviral products was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR formula is effective against HSV, and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with HSV (and other viruses) … reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (4) The study authors also wrote that, “We observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (4)

Both products can be ordered online on the Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR websites.

Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are natural antiviral dietary supplements. Their formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses. To date, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims.

The CBCD believes women should not take the possibility of an asymptomatic genital herpes infection lightly. This is because the number of women with a genital herpes infection is rising.  Dr. Kumar wrote in a study that “Genital herpes, which was considered to be a minor sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the past in developing countries, is rapidly increasing.” (See the Journal of Dermatology, from February 2002) (5) Dr. Kumar is from the Department of Dermatology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India. Another reason for women to be concerned is the fact that “HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of five). (See MedicineNet.com, Last reviewed July 2004) (6).

What treatments are available for herpes infections?

“Two types of antiviral treatments against HSV are available: topical and oral. The treatments include penciclovir, acyclovir, famciclovir, and valaciclovir. However, their effectiveness is limited. For instance, a meta-analysis of five placebo-controlled and two dose comparison studies evaluated the effect of aciclovir, famciclovir or valaciclovir on symptoms. The meta-analysis showed that oral antiviral therapy decreases the duration and the associated pain of an outbreak by merely one day.” (See Pharmacology & Pharmacy from September 2013) (4). There are also natural antiviral products that studies show to be safe and effective in reducing herpes symptoms. Two of these products are Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR.

The center’s mission is to advance the research on the biology of chronic disease and to accelerate the discovery of a cure for these diseases. The CBCD first published Dr. Hanan Polansky’s highly acclaimed “Purple” book, entitled “Microcompetition with Foreign DNA and the Origin of Chronic Disease” in 2003. In this book, he explains how foreign DNA fragments can cause many major diseases. The book has been read by more than 5,000 scientists around the world, and has been reviewed in more than 20 leading scientific journals.
