Genital Warts: Condoms Only Offer Partial Protection; CBCD Examines the Evidence

It is recommended that couples use a condom during each and every sexual encounter. This is because condoms may provide partial protection against the transmission of the human papillomavirus. (1) They should be used even when symptoms of an HPV infection are not present (there are no visible genital warts, etc.). This is because a person can still transmit the virus through seemingly normal skin. As Dr. Richard A. Watson noted “It is estimated that HPV may be harbored in a latent (unexpressed) state for 20 years or longer … patients with persistent HPV may remain at least intermittently capable of transmitting the disease to sexual partners throughout their lifetime.” (2) Dr. Watson is from the Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ. However, even with correct use of a condom, an individual may still become infected with HPV. Cancer.org notes that “Condoms cannot protect completely because they don’t cover every possible HPV-infected area of the body, such as the skin on the genital or anal area … a new condom should be used with each sex act. The condom should be put on BEFORE any genital, oral, or anal contact and kept on until sex is finished.” (1) The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that HPV infected individuals take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR to help the immune system target the latent HPV.

The formula of Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR formula is effective against the HPV and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the HPV…reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (3) The study authors also wrote that “we observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (3)

Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR contain natural antiviral ingredients. These ingredients are: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses. To date, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims.

Importantly, WebMD recommends that “since many people do not have (recognizable symptoms because the virus is in a latent state), they are unaware they are spreading the virus. If your partner discovers a wart, insist that he or she sees a doctor. Even if you don’t have symptoms, you should see your doctor also.” (1)

What treatments are available against the HPV?

“There are no drugs approved against the HPV. Current treatments include procedures, such as cryotherapy, conization, and the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP). These procedures use liquid nitrogen, a surgical knife (scalpel), a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, or electrical current to remove the abnormal growths caused by the HPV. These growths include cells that harbor the active virus. The procedures do not target cells with the latent virus. Since they do not remove the latent virus, these procedures only produce a temporary remission.” (2) In contrast, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR were designed to target the latent HPV.
