Hook Agency CEO Recently Spoke About What Roofing Companies are Spending on Marketing and Where They’re Cashing in

Industry: Advertising & Marketing

Minneapolis, MN (PRUnderground) November 30th, 2021

Roofing industry expert Dmitry Lipinskiy recently said marketing should get 5% of a business’s overall revenue.  Does that mean they should spend those funds on Angi Leads and other shared lead services? According to Lipinskiy, absolutely not.

A rising number of contractors have recently gotten angry with Home Advisor, Angi Leads, and their parent company IAC. But roofing marketer Tim Brown of Hook Agency says not to write off lead aggregators completely. Two of his favorite lead generation activities for 2022 are Thumbtack and Google Local Service Ads. “Google local service ads (or Google Guaranteed) are the best roofing lead generation method for businesses just starting but that have great reviews,” Brown says.

But the truth is, it depends on a company’s location. Google Local Service ads get bogged down in certain areas with too many competitors. To show up higher in the local ad section, get great reviews, respond to inquiries super quickly and crank up the budget beyond what Google will even be likely to spend. Beyond that, SEO and Google Paid Ads are both excellent ways to expand a digital presence.

If a business has between 500K and 2.5M in revenue, it may be best to decide to do just one outlet. So, which one should be first? Brown says that if a business needs leads quickly, they should do Google paid ads. If they already have a decent flow of leads and are concerned more about building long-term methods most cost-effectively, start with SEO.

He adds, “Every roofing company past 2.5M should be doing both SEO and Paid Ads if they are trying to dominate online. Be there when they’re searching – it’s as simple as that.”

If a business owner chooses to get an in-house marketer, do it themself, or hire an agency, one thing is for sure – search engines will be a significant factor in driving roofing business growth.
