IAmWondaWoman:

IAmWondaWoman is a nonprofit organization founded by Meda Leacock, which was formed to strengthen and reinforce the minds of inner-city adolescent girls. We uphold our mission to mentor and motivate young girls, while allowing them the comfort and ability of discussing areas of their life they may not share with their parents, other family members, or even close friends. Our vision entails the importance of understanding their long-term goals in life, and then relating their long-term goals into short-term tasks to assist and encourage the realization and fulfillment of those goals. We coach them in the importance of hygiene and safe sex, as well as the negative effects of drugs, alcohol, and bullying. Subsequently, we offer them constructive criticism on how they can improve as an individual; and lastly, we end with a positive outlook on life that’s realistically attainable to them. We believe that the youth is more receptive to listen when you lead with motivation, so we choose to take our time with each individual girl, and we give them a voice to elaborate on their perspectives and insight.

L.O.T.B (Leaders of Tomorrow Brooklyn):

Leaders of Tomorrow Brooklyn is a nonprofit mentoring firm committed to providing educational opportunities i.e.: mentoring, athletic training, and opportunities to travel abroad to learn about other cultures. L.O.T.B has a partnership with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce which has birthed our business and justice initiatives. Our other initiatives include: B.E.T /media, Catering/cooking, Hospital, Financial Literacy for Youth/Adults and Battered to Beautiful, which pairs our youth with a mentor and program to learn and experience things that aren’t normally taught in school, creating a wholesome and goal oriented youth. Brooklyn native Pastor Lamor Miller-Whitehead who believed that “cultivating our youth’s sense of empowerment and connectedness is the key to creating positive change in our communities” is the founder of Leaders of Tomorrow Brooklyn.

Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger (BSCAH):

Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger is the largest emergency feeding program in New York City. BSCAH provides the basic staples of a well-balanced diet to more than 20,000 unduplicated, low-income individuals each month. Last year, more than 2.9 million meals were distributed and more than $1,000,000 of income tax refunds were processed for low-income New Yorkers. Additionally, BSCAH operates an Urban Agro-Educational Center which provides nearly 30,000 pounds of fresh produce and 20,000 farm fresh eggs, organically produced honey, a sliding scale farmer’s market and educational opportunities to approximately 1,000 city students. BSCAH is one of the most impactful Community Based Organizations in the entire city.
