Jamey Johnson To Headline Legendary Lineup For Leonard Peltier Benefit

Some of music’s biggest names will descend into Dallas in October to raise money for Native American activist Leonard Peltier. Jamey Johnson, Steve Earle, B.J. Thomas, Keith Secola, Jesse Dayton, Rod Melancon, and actor Pete coyote are all confirmed to appear, with artists still being added. The event, dubbed The Spirit Of Crazy Horse: A Benefit for Leonard Peltier, will take place on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Verizon Theater. All proceeds from the show will go toward Peltier’s legal defense. To have them all come together on one stage for one event truly is spectacular.”

Johnson is best known as the legendary singer/songwriter behind such classic songs as “In Color”, “High Cost Of Living”, “Lead Me Home”, and “Between Jennings and Jones”, to name a few. Earle, a performer best known for his hits “Guitar Town”, “Copperhead Road”, “Hard-Core Troubador”, and “Nowhere Road”, has been covered by everyone from Emmylou Harris to supergroup The Highwaymen. Thomas ruled the charts in the 70’s and 80’s with such hits as “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head”, “Hooked On A Feeling”, “(Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song” and “Whatever Happened To Old-Fashioned Love”. Secola, a Native American songwriter and performer, is best known for his soundtrack hits, such as “Indian Cars”, “Innocent Man”, and “This Land”. Gantry broke on to the music scene in the 70’s, penning such hits as Glen Campbell’s “Dreams of the Everyday Housewife”, “Alleghany”, and “Jamaica Avenue”. Dayton is a well-respected singer and songwriter who has recorded with the likes of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash (to name a few). Melancon is a rising star in the music scene, bursting on to the scene out of Nashville and having music featured in national ad campaigns. Coyote is an award-winning actor and activist who has starred in such films as E.T., Patch Adams, and Erin Brokovich, to name just a few. Peltier was convicted in the 1975 death of two FBI agents, in a trial that has been the subject of much controversy; Amnesty International placed his case under the “Unfair Trials” category of its Annual Report: USA 2010, and leaders and activists ranging from Pope Francis and Nelson Mandela to Archbishop Desmond Tutu and U2 lead singer Bono have called for his release.
