Possibility of libraries creating their own economies by offering Premium Services.

When you picture a library in your mind, more often than not you envision a large building housing endless shelves of dusty books. Most people identify libraries in the traditional sense and see it as nothing but a collection of newspapers, encyclopedias, maps or dictionaries. A library, however, is a place of vast knowledge and an unlimited supply of information.

JEFFERY-COHEN-TCG-OPTICAL.jpgLike the rest of the world, everything is evolving and so are our libraries, and our traditional outlook on libraries is slowly changing. These days, one can walk into a library and various add-ons are available, for example you can order a meal or a drink alongside your reading. You may also be able to access archived records of newspapers and news items on your laptop. Many libraries today have Wi-Fi and electricity ports to give you access to their database.

When we need an endless supply of information, be it either for research that is professional or personal, we turn to the library. Convenience is what is key and important to most people today. Time is precious and anything that can save on time is much welcome.

Ways to narrow a search in the library is one of the new and innovative ways libraries are embracing, in order to remain relevant. Once you access a libraries’ data base, the use of key words that lead to filtering of categories pops up and cuts your search time into half. Some libraries are however reluctant to charge for this basic service, as Mr. Jeffrey Cohen says, “While libraries have been stubbornly resistant to charging for basic services, as they should, the encroaching do-more-with-less climate is leaving few options for traditionalist thinking.”

People are however very willing to spend money in order to cut back on the time spent in the quest for relevant information through a myriad of texts. Libraries can provide for premium services including; additional costs for professional searches, personalized coaching services, photo and image enhancement services, 3-D printer services and legacy building services.
