The online magazine 300Magazine is happy to share the news that Space 776 in New York is now hosting a solo exhibition of the Chicago-based artist Lynn Basa who is known for her encaustic paintings and public art installations around the country. The exhibition titled “In The Aggregate” features a series of Basa’s encaustic works exploring the imperfection of memory. It runs at the gallery through March 23.

Space 776 is a contemporary art gallery located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, NY. Since 2013, it has been showcasing a wide range of local and international artists working in diverse media, from traditional oil painting to live multimedia performances. The gallery also participates in various international art fairs in the United States and abroad, including Art Miami, Affordable Art Fair, Volta Basel, Art Busan, and Asia Contemporary Art Show. In 2019, Space 776 opened its second space in Seoul, South Korea to promote New York-based artists to the Asian market.

Space 776 in New York is currently hosting “In The Aggregate,” a solo exhibition of Lynn Basa, which was opened to the public on February 25. The show features a series of Basa’s encaustic paintings that, according to the artist, were made by scraping through layers of previous decisions, a process that turned them into something new in the aggregate. The entire presentation is an allegory for the imperfection of human memory and the impossibility of going back in time to change anything, which is sometimes for the better.

Lynn Basa lives and works in Chicago where she has a studio in an old storefront that was once a Polish sausage shop. She studied Fine Art at Indiana University, from where she graduated with a BA degree, and earned her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Lynn Basa is known for her encaustic art she creates using beeswax and oil pigment and her numerous public art commissions in glass, mosaic, terrazzo, steel, and light. The artist has also founded the Milwaukee Avenue Alliance aimed at reawakening the potential of the three blocks of Milwaukee Avenue between Kimball and Central Park in Chicago. Besides, Lynn Basa is an author of “The Artist’s Guide to Public Art: How to Find and Win Commissions,” a book based on a class she developed and taught at the Sculpture Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Whether you are an art collector or you simply love contemporary art, take your time to visit Space 776 in New York to enjoy artworks by the talented artist Lynn Basa. Please keep in mind that the gallery allows four visitors in the space at once.
