‘Me Too’ Book Raises Money for Art and Healing Programs

The new eBook, Me Too! Healing from the Scars of Sexual Harassment was released this weekend to deliver a hard-hitting story within a forty minute time-frame. The goal of the book is to raise funds for art therapy programs for victims of sexual abuse, trafficking, and other traumatizing experiences.

Author, Pamela Sherrod, has worked in a number of fields, but her counseling experience as the coordinator of a Crisis Intervention program for women made an unforgettable impression on her. From then on, she wanted to be an advocate for women and children. It never occurred to her, though, that she’d need one for herself.

Two decades have passed since a powerful man lured her to his home with the promise of a job, but when she rejected his sexual advances, all bets were off. A scar on her face remains as a daily reminder of that season.

“There are millions of us,” she says, “who have silently suffered from the pain of sexual abuse, harassment, and other traumatizing experiences.”  And the list can include famous Hollywood wives.

In her book, Sherrod recounts the extraordinary experiences she shared with the late Mrs. Sammy Davis Jr.  Beyond the glamorous façade of Altovise’s marriage to a Rat Pack star, was the pressure to accept his ‘experimental’ lifestyle, and essentially submit to sexual practices that were emotionally harmful.  Altovise’s tragic case is an example of the devastating results.

Sherrod broaches the delicate issue of sexually abusive practices in marriage, especially in navigating the increasingly blurry lines between experimentation and exploitation. She draws her insights from, not only Altovise’s marriage but other wives who’ve felt confused and powerless.

Many women believe they’re stuck in hopeless situations, but Pam says that’s not always the case.

Their agency provided a wide range of vital services, and these included assistance to victims of rape and domestic violence and the counseling of prisoners and women in need of restraining orders.

“Although we provided housing and protected women in our Safe House, it often felt like we were applying a Band-Aid to a much deeper wound.”

The missing component was true healing.

In launching the ministry called the Academy of Arts and Healing, Sherrod offers art therapy to people who’ve suffered painful losses and traumatizing experiences.  Her goal for next year is to open an online art store in which their products can be sold.

“We can help people who’re suffering from severe depression, trauma, and other debilitating conditions by shifting their time, thoughts and energy toward activities that promote healing, renewal, and empowerment,” says Pam.

She, herself, is an example of the healing benefits of creative art projects and faith. Her encouragement helped Altovise to, not only heal but regain the confidence needed to defend her legal rights.

Pam’s still amazed that, in helping Altovise, she actually played a role in saving the Sammy Davis Jr. Estate.

Her plan now is to help as many others as possible.

The Kindle eBook version of Me Too! Healing from the Scars of Sexual Harassment is now available to purchase at Amazon.
