Metallica is one heavy metal band which has grown beyond its classifications. Starting out as a thrash metal band, it has evolved to be more than a heavy metal band. There have been times when it was likened to the best in rock and roll. They may have gone mainstream in some songs, but they have retained their roots and continue to grow their fan base.

Arguably, the most influential heavy metal group all time is Black Sabbath. However, Metallica is more popular as a heavy metal band. When you ask ordinary people on the streets for the name of a heavy metal band, Metallica comes up nine times out of ten. That simple experiment not only shows their universal popularity but also how they have influenced popular culture.

When people discuss the band, long-time loyal fans would refer to the Master of Puppets as the best Metallica album ever. However, younger generation of fans would mention that they first became fans with their eponymously titled fifth album, Metallica. This album created a mainstream following with songs like “Unforgiven,” “Nothing Else Matters” and “Sandman,” which all became hits on the pop charts. It is not everyday that heavy metal gets extended air play on radio.

There was a fear, at that point that the band may be going mainstream and leaving their heavy metal fan base. Since they released Metallica (also otherwise known as The Black Album), the band has released five more albums. The latest album is titled Hardwired … to Self-Destruct and was released in 2016.

Metallica has been enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and during 2018 and 2019 their huge fanbase in North America can’t wait to see them perform live.  This is a highly anticipated event, and tickets will sell out very quickly for this exciting tour.
