Industry: Environment

Mr. Michael Tornabe talks about harnessing renewable energy sources to power water vessels in a sustainable manner.

Brooklyn, New York (PRUnderground) May 2nd, 2016

“Solar energy has been widely used in a variety of places, and now we have yet another application for this massive and underutilized energy source – the Solar Sailor”, transportation entrepreneur and technology enthusiast Michael Tornabe said as he began his address on futuristic transportation concepts at a meet up held in New York City recently.

“The idea behind the Solar Sailor is to take advantage of the uninterrupted solar rays that are available in the middle of a vast ocean, where there aren’t any buildings or trees to block the path”, he continued, stating that the concept was implemented using a series of boats of different sizes. The boats are fitted with solar panels that propel the ships on the surface of the water.

This technology, he continued, can be used on any water vessels from small private yachts to massive ferries and commercial shipping vessels. The technology has been successfully applied to a sea shuttle in Australia, which has been used for over ten years now. Patents currently exist in the US, Turkey and New Zealand, with many other countries’ patents pending currently.

“Energy from renewable sources is our best chance for transportation fuel sustainability in the future. Fossil fuel sources are being depleted, and it’s only a matter of time before most of the sources we depend on now are completely exhausted. Sun and wind however, are free gifts given to our planet, and they are clean sources of energy that won’t have negative ramifications on the environment,” Michael Tornabe expounded.

The passionate technology enthusiast who himself has a few patents under his belt further stated in conclusion that computers are installed in the ships to control the power sources. Energy is harnessed and stored in large batteries, which are used together with the regular fossil fuels as backup energy sources.
