Northern Irelands Largest Law Firm Quits Serious Crime Cases

Manchester (PRUnderground) May 21st, 2015

In response to the Governments cuts in legal aid Northern Ireland’s largest law firm Kevin Winter’s and Company has made the decision to withdraw from all of its most serious crime cases.

No doubt this will come as no surprise in legal circles given the extensive and well documented cuts made so far to the legal aid system.

A man was remanded in custody in Belfast on Tuesday charged with sexual assault. In an unprecedented move his solicitor Joe McVeigh advised he would no longer be involved in the case as part of a protest against new legal aid rules recently introduced.

GroupWindow-030.gifOn the same note The London Legal Walk took place on Monday 18th May 2015. The walk is an annual event raising funds for the most vulnerable members of society for whom access to justice is now out of reach (largely due to the reduction in funding for legal aid).

Will we see similar action here in England following Northern Ireland’s stance? That remains to be seen. As a potential answer to this ongoing problem Ralli Solicitors llp, criminal law solicitors Manchester have introduced a fixed fee service for clients faced with unexpected legal expenses. The service is not only affordable but covers both Magistrates Court and Crown Court proceedings. Prices are set out clearly on the firm’s website.
