Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau has broken ground on Wisconsin’s most anticipated new youth sports projects. The Fox Cities Champion Center in Grand Chute, WI will be a 164,000 square foot indoor sports and events complex with two sheets of ice, 8 basketball courts, a bar/restaurant, and other multipurpose space. Designed to attract visiting teams, special events, and other programs that will fill local hotel rooms and provide economic boost to the area, the Center will position Fox Cities as a national competitor in the youth and amateur sports marketplace. The facility will be managed through a contract with the Sports Facilities Management (SFM).

“The size and impact of this project is too important to this community not to consider an expert firm,” commented Matt Ten Haken, Director of Sports Marketing of the Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We knew we needed an industry-leader that could bring a level of expertise that is unmatched, and The Sports Facilities Management is our ideal partner. We’re excited to begin this partnership and see the Champion Center come to life.”

Jason Clement, Founder and CEO of SFM added: “The Fox Cities Champion Center is a momentous achievement that is the result of collaboration between 19 municipalities in the region.  Clement added, SFM has been engaged to staff, market, operate, and maintain the Fox Cities Champion Center to create a premier destination for the Midwest. SFM will begin its work immediately – by providing project management and pre-opening services. “Our directive is simple,” said Clement, “we need to perform here as we have in our other venues. We are tasked with enhancing sports driven out-of-town visitor spending to bring economic vitality to the region.  We will use our national media, marketing platform, and extensive reach to position the Champion Center as a premier destination in the market place.

The Champion Center is projected to generate $8.9 million in direct economic impact during its first year of operation and $12 million annually by its fifth year. The state-of-the-art facility will host numerous court and ice-based events each year as well as community-based leagues, open recreational time, rentals, camps, and clinics.

The Champion Center joins the SFM National Network, the nation’s largest single network of sports tourism venues, and will benefit from SFM’s deep industry connections with events rights holders, sports equipment and FF&E vendors, experienced operations professionals, and industry associations. Each year, more than 25 million guests visit SFM venues in locations across the continental United States for sports tournaments, local recreation programs, parties, group and special events.

SFM has opened the facility for early-stage event booking and will be launching a national search for the position of General Manager. For booking information or to inquire about the General Manager position, contact SFM Regional Vice President, John McDonald jmcdonald@sportadvisory.com.
