22-year old American filmmaker Jack Chakerian is currently directing a brand new independent feature film in Taipei, Taiwan.
Chakerian’s Wednesday Circus takes audiences on a winding journey with characters interwoven into each others’ stories. This thought-provoking film dissects the idea of meaning while also taking a look at mindfulness and madness.
In October 2016, Chakerian set out to see the world His journey has taken him to India, Scotland, Romania, Turkey, Georgia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan. According to Chakerian, he’s made money to get by through working in hotels, playing guitar on the streets, and offering English lessons.
He has collaborated with local filmmakers to generate interest for the Wednesday Circus script, which has been translated to Mandarin. Initial response to his script has resulted in 90+ interested actors, 7 producers, and several cinematographers and crew.
According to Chakerian, “Most backpacking filmmakers travel with one camera and make a documentary, trying to do everything by themselves, but I like the idea of bringing many passionate people together and creating the best story we can.”
Now, Chakerian is raising funds on Kickstarter to support the development of Wednesday Circus. $4900 is being raised for equipment, food, permits, and to get crew aboard for production. Pledgers will receive special thanks, signed scripts, and more.
“The whole prospect of sounded nearly impossible at first. But the structure of the film allows each actor to only require a couple days of shooting, greatly reducing our budget. I’ve found there are filmmakers in all parts of the world eager to just work on a project for the project’s sake,” said Chakerian.
