American Sentinel University and Colorado Hospital Association Name The Medical Center of Aurora Plant Operations Director a Colorado Health Care Star

American Sentinel University and Colorado Hospital Association named Troy Dugan, Director of Plan Operations, with The Medical Center of Aurora, as a Colorado Health Care Star Award winner. This award recognizes Dugan as an exceptional leader, making a difference in health care.

Colorado Health Care Stars is a statewide health care professional award recognition program sponsored by American Sentinel University and Colorado Hospital Association. The program was launched in February 2015 to acknowledge industry professionals in Colorado who exceed expectations in the delivery of health care.

Troy joined The Medical Center of Aurora, part of HealthONE, Denver’s largest health care system, in 2008 and now has oversight of five campuses.

Troy starts off each of his staff meetings with the plant operations team leading with a mission moment. “We’re all here for our patients, and that’s why we do what we do,” he tells a room full of mechanics.

“The nurses, doctors, and employees at the hospital could not provide the care we provide without Troy ensuring we have heat, that we have water, that our Operating Rooms have enough air exchanges to reduce infection, and that the snow is carefully removed to prevent falls each time it snows,” said Hallie Woods, Chief Operating Officer for the Medical Center of Aurora.

“When you think of a healthcare star, the director of plant operations isn’t the first person that comes to mind,” said Woods. “When you meet Troy Dugan, however, that all changes. At the heart of every decision Troy makes, is the patient. Whether he is working late into the night to ensure that a water repair goes smoothly and doesn’t impact our patients, or whether he is leaving his house on a Saturday to deal with an electrical downtime, the first thing he says to himself is ‘how is this impacting our patients.’ Troy works tirelessly to see that our providers have what they need. He is a genuine friend, colleague, and caretaker in our hospital.”
