Bailey’s Law, A Jack Bailey Detective Mystery, Tackles Tough Issues: PTSD and Campus Assault

Industry: Books

A murder mystery featuring hard-boiled, PTSD-challenged detective, Jack Bailey, who reveals more than the killer during his investigation of a small-town crime sensation.

Houston, Texas (PRUnderground) November 9th, 2016

With an estimated eight percent of the American population suffering from PTSD and one in five women experiencing sexual assault on campus, Meg Lelvis took to penning Bailey’s Law in order to address her increasing concerns surrounding these issues.

How did Jack Bailey, a hard-boiled detective come about? “I wanted a crusty cop who was vulnerable and compassionate underneath his grumpy façade,” Lelvis said. “Jack’s PTSD evolved to show how a trauma and repressed memories of the past can affect a person, and the necessity of coming to terms with one’s demons. I created Jack Bailey to be a voice for those who are victimized by stronger forces. In Bailey’s Law, Jack must face a tough decision which reaches the core of ethics, morality, justice, and compassion.”

As a woman with two daughters, Lelvis has always been outraged when assaults against women go unpunished or are covered up by authorities. Jack Bailey discovers the deadly results of a “boys will be boys” incident which can tear families apart.

Meg Lelvis’s fiction and poetry have won awards from Houston Writers Guild and Houston Writers House. Her short story featuring Jack Bailey was published in Houston Writers Guild mystery anthology, Waves of Suspense. She lives in Houston, TX with her husband and two dogs.
