Carescribr Announces Free Pilot of its Charting Platform for Clinics Treating Vulnerable Populations

Industry: Healthcare

Medical apps should help workflow, not slow it down. Healthcare startup Carescribr is answering the call.

Washington, D.C. (PRUnderground) December 10th, 2018

Clinicians in primary care residency clinics and community health centers face significant challenges bringing high quality medical care to underserved populations. They stretch themselves to manage visits containing a disproportionate number of chronic conditions complicated with socioeconomic barriers. Documentation of these visits in the electronic medical record routinely causes providers to spend additional hours after clinic just to finish their work, a situation sure to cause professional burnout.

The new healthcare startup, Carescribr, is coming forward to help solve this problem by offering free pilots of their new tablet and cloud-based note writing platform. The platform helps collect a patient’s medical history in their native language and then translates it into English in a format that a doctor can use in the electronic medical record. The patient’s medical history also becomes portable so the patient can share it with any provider she sees. The Carescribr team hopes to empower medical teams by cutting their documentation workload, allowing them to apply this time and energy into more valuable areas. The new system has been met with quick enthusiasm.

“We are seeing more and more medical providers opening up and speaking about their frustrations with their electronic medical records,” commented Dr. Troy Russell MD, MPH, Carescribr founder and a practicing primary care physician in a community health center. “This is especially pronounced among primary care providers helping underserved communities. Budgets are tight and we want to help these providers realize the benefits before investing valuable resources. We believe our technology should be available to all patients and not just to the big academic centers and concierge practices.”

The painful truth is that the administrative workload in community health centers can be too much for many providers and this is reflected in the low provider retention rates. Carescribr believes if these providers are given the right tools, ones that reduce their workload, they will be more likely to stay.

Dr. Russell continued, “The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) just issued a draft strategy fully admitting the burden that electronic medical records are placing on providers. Carescribr addresses many of the problems mentioned in the report. We know our platform will make a significant difference to front-line primary care providers in the most challenging of practice environments.”

Carescribr is currently recruiting a limited number of beta testers but plans to offer free trials of the platform during the official launch in spring 2019.
