Dr. Raymond Laboratories Developing a Cannabinoid-mimicking Compound for Dermatological Use

Industry: Beauty

Dr. Raymond Park of Dr. Raymond Laboratories is heading a team of research scientists on the development of topical endocannabinomimetics (NEUROMIDE) for use in cosmeceutical topical skin treatments. Dr. Raymond Laboratories is following up on preliminary research on the possible benefits of cannabinoids for skin health since positive results have been found consistently on cannabinoids for the improvement in skin barrier functions.

In a recent article, “Epidermal Endocannabinoid System (EES) and Its Cosmetic Application,” published in the cosmetics division of MDPI publishing, Dr. Raymond Park and his co-authors identified the role of the Epidermal Endocannabinoid System as having potential therapeutic applications for inflammatory skin diseases, including allergic contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.

Various in vivo, in vitro and clinical studies have identified the endocannabinoid compounds that play the key role in skin health and Dr. Raymond Laboratories has worked on finding new ingredients(NEUROMIDE) for cosmetic skincare solutions. “We would like to develop cosmetic ingredients without possible psychological side effects of phytocannabinoid compounds when applied to the skin,” explained Dr. Park, “So we are focusing on a cannbinoid-mimicking compound called endocannabinomimetics which has no psychological side effects and will be safe for dermatological use.” Tested on a small group of healthy volunteers, endocannabinomimetics in Crystal Lamella MES formulation showed skin barrier recovery as well as significant increases in skin hydration immediately following one application.

The results of preliminary development and testing of endocannabinomimetics suggest that these compounds can be used for improving skin barrier functions, and can be a new candidate for new cosmeceutical ingredients for both sensitive and even in healthy skin.
