Driving Successful Lives Provides a Wheelchair-Accessible Van to an Oakland County Resident, After His Old Van Became Unsafe and Unreliable

Driving Successful Lives, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, recently helped change the life of an Oakland County, Michigan resident living with a severe disability by acquiring a wheelchair-accessible handicap van with fewer than 8,000 miles.

The recipient, who is confined to a wheelchair, had been relying on an aging handicap van with more than 200,000 miles that had become heavily rusted and mechanically worn to the point it needed to be scrapped. The deteriorating condition of the vehicle created major transportation challenges and threatened his ability to safely attend doctor appointments, shop for groceries, visit family, and participate in church and community activities.

Thanks to the charity’s efforts, he now has dependable transportation that restores mobility, independence, and peace of mind.

“This is exactly why our charity exists,” said Mark Maupin, Director of Driving Successful Lives. “Many people feel trapped by circumstances they cannot control. In this case, reliable transportation means freedom, dignity, and the ability to live life with greater independence. Something as simple as a dependable van can completely change a person’s quality of life.”

Maupin said the charity secured a low-mileage, wheelchair-accessible van that will dramatically improve the recipient’s daily life.

“His old van had over 200,000 miles, severe rust issues, and had reached the point where it really needed to be scrapped,” Maupin explained. “Without transportation, people can become isolated from family, medical care, church, and everyday life. We are incredibly grateful to the donors whose generosity helps make situations like this possible.”

Driving Successful Lives receives donated vehicles and real estate from people across the United States. Many of the donations involve unwanted cars, inherited properties, vacant homes, distressed real estate, or vehicles that owners no longer want or cannot afford to repair.

“Many donors think their old vehicle or distressed property has little value,” Maupin added. “But when those assets are donated, they often become the very thing that changes someone else’s life. Every donated car, truck, RV, home, or piece of land gives us another opportunity to help someone facing real hardship.

The charity noted that transportation is one of the biggest struggles facing disabled individuals, seniors, and low-income families throughout Michigan and across the country.

About Driving Successful Lives

Driving Successful Lives’ mission is to help raise funds and improve the lives of veterans, homeless families, children, those with addictions while helping donors generate a tax deduction, often with property or vehicles they might no longer want.

Every time a person gives to the charity of their choice it may also create a tax benefit for them. Car donations, real estate donations or money donated to non-profit institutions throughout the tax year may be tax deductible which means that they could make a positive difference for people while reducing the amount of income taxes they pay. Contributing to charities can be a very convenient way to reduce taxes and help others.
