“The Misadventures of the Dunderheads”  has launched a new film crowdfunding campaign at IndieGogo, featuring Academy-Award winner Olympia Dukakis(“Moonstruck”) and Nominee Haley Joel Osment (“The Sixth Sense”).  Also starring is Alison Brie, from NBC’s “Community.”

The film is a tragicomedy road-movie set in the American west:  the story of a crazed grandmother on the lam with her two teenaged grandkids.  Why an IndieGogo campaign if there are known stars in the film?  Director D.G. Brock explains:

“It’s because of how the film business has changed.  Sometimes the best way for independent films to get seen is through crowdfunding, not traditional distribution.  You’d be surprised at how many indie films with some of the biggest names in town are bypassing ‘traditional’ studio distribution.”

“The Misadventures of the Dunderheads” has already seen good success at film festivals, according to Brock, and the IndieGogo campaign is their way of reaching the much larger DVD and digital audiences.  With crowdfunding such as IndieGogo or Kickstarter, potential fans of a movie contribute money to the campaign, and receive “perks” in exchange.  These perks usually include a DVD or download of the film, but that can be just the tip of the iceberg.  Brock continued:

“We’re offering everything from costumes worn by the stars to lunch with the composer to your name listed as a producer, depending upon the contribution.  The perks can really be great fun.”

The campaign runs through Sept. 22nd.  You can see it here.
