There is something very special for many people in the timeless strategy games like Chess, Go, Checkers, and Shogi. In exciting news from game designer Landon Ginn, a new name has been added to the tabletop list, Enso Koi. The new game combines the best of ancient strategy games with Ginn’s deep knowledge of and passion for technology, cutting edge science, and artificial intelligence; As well as having been immersed deeply in Japanese culture from his time living in Tokyo. Currently, a Kickstarter Campaign is on fire to bring the first run of Enso Koi to market, with 20% of its goal reached within 24-hours of being launched. To say the excitement surrounding the game and its crowdfunding effort is high would be quite an understatement. But, further support, is of course still needed, with being one of the first to have Enso Koi being a perk for those who donate depending on the amount put towards the cause.

“Even though it is simple to play, there is too many dimensional considerations for a computer to come up with, where a person can actually FEEL out the flow of the game,” commented the enthusiastic Ginn. “I’ll be impressed if someone manages a way to solve it without shortcuts, but I’m not holding my breath.”

Enso Koi can be played by two to six people. Depending on the number of people and skill level gameplay can last anywhere between 20 minutes to 45 minutes on average, sometimes even longer. The board game is based around each player trying to capture their opponent or opponents Koi fish using their strategic and logical mind. Six different Koi are used who are able to move in different ways. Stones are also employed to block moves and add to the challenge and strategic thinking required. And to top it all off, you can chain together a sequence of reviving lost pieces to change the flow of battle.

The game is very easy to learn with most people being able to understand its gameplay in three turns or less.

An intention of Enso Koi is to enhance mental health, mindfulness, self-reflection, and healthy communication between players.

Ginn is currently a Technical Director from Nickelodeon Studios in Los Angeles, California and has worked in the past for other companies doing CGI, with “Fire Emblem: Fates” being one highlight of the projects he has been a part of, another being his work on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

So far over 100 people have playtested the game nationally at a number of different conferences and conventions, with all of them giving it wonderful feedback.

A recent five-star review said, “Very easy to learn, but you quickly see how deep it can go. It feels less intimidating than Chess and welcomes new players, but after hours of playing I still felt like I had more to learn. Every game brought new strategies and kept me on my toes.”

The crowdfunding campaign has a goal set of $17,000 and ends on February 6th, 2019.
