Recently, the department for transport announced that they will be scrapping and improving over 142 road transport regulations, much of this being a result of the government’s ‘Red Tape Challenge’ that was introduced last year.

One change that could well save drivers up to a staggering £8 million is the measure that should see the regulation which currently requires van and car drivers to not only hold a credit card sized license, but also a paper counterpart.

The ‘Red Tape Challenge’ is just one of many schemes launched by the coalition government since its election that aims to cut costs by removing unnecessary, overcomplicated and bureaucratic procedures.

Even though many of the changes are being welcomed by those within the van and fleet industry, some are concerned with a small number of issues that could crop up once the changes occur. Issues such as the driving license counterpart slip being made redundant will worry many fleet operators, due to the possibility of charges being introduced to check driver’s credentials via a telephone hotline or website.

With many regulations set to change, fleet and van drivers such as Transit van owners could well be seeing a decrease in motoring costs, and also a much less burdensome task when dealing with government motoring agencies. This, of course, means more funds to spend on getting newer and better quality vehicles such as new Ford vans.
