Kate O’Connell is a Licensed Child and Family Therapist with a private practice in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was recently chosen to receive the Empowered Woman of the Year Award for 2021 given by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Her exemplary role as a female professional in a male dominated industry displays her influence, capability, and proficiency.

Inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) is an honor in itself, only a few women are chosen for this distinction based on their years of experience, professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, and contributions to their communities. With innovation and compassion, these women empower others to reach their goals, while creating change for future generations.

Additionally, Kate will be honored for her selection as Top Family Therapist of the Year at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala this December. www.iaotp.com/award-gala

The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami, stated “Choosing Kate for this most recent recognition was an easy decision for our panel to make. She provides visionary leadership in her field and her experiences and accomplishments prove she has the ability to empower women worldwide. We look forward to celebrating all of her success at the Annual Awards Gala.”

Before embarking on her current career path, Kate attended Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario earning a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Photographic Arts. She returned to school in 2003 and received a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY where she was chosen to receive the prestigious Daniel Kirk award upon graduation and accepted into Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology.

With over fifteen years of clinical experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Kate has proven herself as an expert in the field of psychology and mental health counseling. She is a dynamic teacher, healer, and leader who continues to achieve successful, long-term results in her private clinical practice in Charlottesville, Virginia utilizing the modality she created; Beyond the Imprint Therapy.

Kate has extensive training and experience in Family Systems Therapy and Intensive In-Home Services working with at-risk, under-served populations where she advocated for them within the social, academic and legal systems. This enables her to provide positive outcomes for clients dealing with a multitude of mental/emotional health issues.

Kate’s key areas of expertise include addressing the therapeutic needs of children, adolescents, couples and families. She effectively addresses issues related to divorce/custody, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, PTSD, sexual/physical abuse, cutting, anger, substance abuse, death/dying, grief and loss.

For the past 30 years, Kate has been studying and training with a variety of teachers and healers operating from within a number of different spiritual and meta-physical frameworks and healing modalities.  Beginning in 1997, Kate spent five years living, studying and training with a Cherokee Medicine Woman and Shaman in the Adirondacks in Upstate NY. She integrates all of this knowledge and training into her clinical practice by offering her clients a truly holistic and multidimensional approach to their healing experience.

In 2017, Kate founded the non-profit, The Healing Alliance of Central Virginia (HACVA), as a health and educational platform to further develop and expand on the central theses of Beyond the Imprint Therapy, which she describes in her two clinical books, Beyond the Imprint; A New Modality for Mental Health Practitioners and Those Seeking Their Help and Getting Beyond the Imprint; A Complete Guide for Dissolving Our Imprints and the Bondage of Perception.

In addition to Kate’s extensive training and skill-set; The Healing Alliance of Central Virginia (HACVA) utilizes the expertise and wisdom of other integrative practitioners within the community allowing individuals from all developmental stages and demographics to access an impressive array of integrative therapies and workshops regardless of their ability to pay.

These therapies include, but are not limited to, CranioSacral Therapy, Thai Massage, Acupuncture, Reiki, Flower Essence Therapy, Herbalism, PEMF Therapy, Yoga, Qigong, Meditation, Floatation Therapy and Sound/Vibration Therapy.  Moreover, Kate offers a variety of workshops including Adolescent Support Groups, Native American Sweat Lodge Ceremony, Compassion Fatigue Workshops for Health Professionals, Relationship Workshops, Corporate Workshops, Parent Workshops and Substance Abuse Support Groups.

Throughout her remarkable career, Kate has been recognized for her outstanding leadership and commitment to those she has served. This year she is being considered for a feature article in TIP (Top Industry Professional) Magazine and for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award given by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

Kate’s primary motivation in continuing to expand on the work that she does through her non-profit is to be able to increase her capacity as a healing influence within her community in order to reach as many people as possible; thereby continuing her life-long commitment of being in service to others.

While Kate’s own personal healing journey and ability to access deep intuitive guidance continues to influence her style of therapy; she largely attributes the success and efficacy of her practice to all of her teachers, mentors, colleagues and clients who have influenced her thinking, developed her skill-sets and informed all of the themes embodied within the modality she created; Beyond the Imprint Therapy.
