Local Motors CEO, Oak Ridge National Laboratory Director Headline Additive Manufacturing Conference

The Additive Manufacturing Conference, presented by Modern Machine Shop, in cooperation with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will feature four unique, expert keynote addresses focused on the application of additive manufacturing technologies for making functional components and end-use production parts.

The two-day technical conference and exhibit hall in Knoxville, TN, will open October 20th with Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Dr. Lonnie Love discussing how his team is “Breaking Barriers in Additive Manufacturing.” Conference attendees will be able to experience, first-hand, the processes examined by Love during an exclusive tour of Oak Ridge’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility.

Love’s opening keynote will be followed by International Additive Manufacturing Award winner and leading developer of solutions for combined CNC machining and additive manufacturing operations, Dr. Jason Jones from Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies. Dr. Jones’s address, “Hybrid CNC Machines: A New Platform for AM,” will explore the possibilities of making, repairing and improving parts through hybrid processing.

Closing the conference’s first day, GE Aviation Additive Technologies Lead, Greg Morris, will report on the adoption and advancement of additive manufacturing at GE Aviation. Following Morris’s presentation, attendees, presenters and exhibitors will connect for a special evening of networking and entertainment at the grand reception held in the exhibit room at the Knoxville Convention Center.

Local Motors CEO Jay Rogers will open day two of the Additive Manufacturing Conference discussing the production possibilities of additive manufacturing in his address “Welcome to the Third Industrial Revolution – Local Motors and the 3D Printed Car.”

“There is so much information circulating about 3D printing and additive manufacturing that it can be challenging for manufacturing professionals to know where to turn. We selected these keynotes because they each represent expertise in the key subject areas that matter to industrial manufacturers. Dr. Love is an expert on additive manufacturing applications. Dr. Jason Jones is at the forefront of developing equipment that addresses both CNC machining and additive processing. Greg Morris represents perhaps the world’s leading OEM in additive production. And, Jay Rogers is a visionary who sees unique production possibilities in the adoption of additive manufacturing,” explained Allison Miller, Conference Director.

Along with access to the four industry keynote addresses and tours of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Local Motors shop, Additive Manufacturing Conference registrants will receive entry to the AM exhibit hall, meals throughout the event and admission to all technical sessions.

“Like our keynotes, the complete conference program includes sessions on the applications, the equipment, the materials and the markets that are driving additive adoption and innovation,” continued Miller. “As importantly, our presenters are not only leaders in presenting on additive technologies, but they are also leaders in applying additive technologies.”
