Documentary filmmaker and environmental activist Matthew Berdyck announced the opening of a new online media outlet, Daily independent Journal.
Berdyck said, “After traveling to thousands of cities and having thousands of journalists flatly refuse to investigate or write about everything from the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund toxic waste clean up project, which encompasses over 1,300 massive toxic waste sites in hundreds of cities, to the Department of Energy’s controversial radioactive waste clean up project, which includes 5,200 Uranium tailings clean up sites, I became frustrated with the quality of journalism that exists in The United States.”
“I grew tired of begging journalists to write about these very important causes, so I got mad one day and decided to start my own media outlet, one dedicated to speaking truth to power and exposing the sordid underbelly of reality that receives very little public attention from alleged reputable local and national media outlets, yet affects millions of Americans each day.”
“Many years ago, I was deeply inspired by the now-defunct Guerilla News Network and the book, Into The Buzzsaw: The Myth of a Free Press in America, to become an investigative journalist, even though both of those texts warned me of the dangers of taking on powerful causes.
"I’d walked forward without fear. Eventually, I’d traveled well over a half a million miles to over two-thousand cities, only to be reminded that everything I’d read prior to the start of my travels was absolutely true."
“In almost all of these cities, what I encountered were corrupt local media outlets that are willing to overlook the bitter realities of the very sad state of affairs that is the US environmental debate, in order to protect the local status quo, like the local mayor, city council, economic development committees, who often retaliated against me for my efforts to cause reform, as the local media looked the other way, or worse, published political attack articles about me.”
“On a national level, our media is so divided and conversely one-sided that most rational American citizens have no idea what to believe. Partisan driven media has divided our country into two warring factions, while the national media outlets are more concerned with what President Trump tweeted than talking about the real issues that Americans face.”
Daily Independent Journal also covers travel, entertainment, food, and science & technology.
