Music Production Duo The Frontrunnaz Land First Major Commercial Placement with Mobb Deep

Industry: Entertainment & Games

Bay Area Production Team Collaborates with Hip-Hop Legends on Reunion Album

Los Angeles, CA (PRUnderground) April 2nd, 2014

Bay Area production duo The Frontrunnaz have gotten down and dirty with Mobb Deep; at least on their highly anticipated reunion album The Infamous Mobb Deep, debuting today.  Comprised of husband and wife Dria and Christopher Thornton, The Frontrunnaz wrote on the record “Dirt” off of the upcoming LP on Sony Red Distribution.  The Infamous Mobb Deep marks Mobb Deep’s return since their 2006 release Blood Money.

“We got an email back in December 2013 from a phenomenal producer by the name of !llMind,” says Dria Thornton.  “We had been working with him for almost three years so he trusted our quality of work.  He asked us to pen a hook on ‘Dirt’ for Mobb Deep’s album.  We were super excited because Chris grew up on Hip-Hop and is one of Mobb Deep’s biggest fans. I told him we better get this placement or I was revoking his Hip-Hop card (laughs).  We turned the hook in 24 hours later, they loved it and the rest is history.”

Chris and Dria Thornton first met when Chris was seeking a singer to add to his production team.  After a brief stint in the early 90’s in an R&B Group signed to Capitol Records, Chris had his share of career highs and lows.  After learning the in’s and out’s of the industry, being an in-house producer for a production company and having bad management, Chris understood how important it was to take control of his own career.

As Chris was looking for singer-songwriters to join his camp, he came across a “shy” Dria in California who was already getting her feet wet in the industry.  Best friends with Tennis champion, Serena Williams, Dria was singing for Darkchild, Macy Gray and Randy Jackson to name a few.  Chris recognized her potential and began developing her as his own artist, securing a promising record deal.

Shortly after the deal fell short, Chris moved to Dallas and Dria moved from Houston to Dallas to form “The Frontrunnaz”.  As fate would have it, years later, after moving back to California, the two would end working with fellow Texan and Grammy Award winning producer, Symbolyc One (Beyonce, Kanye West, Jay-Z). The Frontrunnaz were introduced to the Grammy Award winning producer through industry vet and NottingHill Publishing A&R, Livio Harris. In November of 2013, Livio signed The Frontrunnaz to the boutique publishing company.

“Livio has had an incredible belief in us since the first day we met him almost 3 years ago,” says Chris.  “We had multiple offers for publishing deals but we wanted to sign with NottingHill because they were boutique.  Livio believed in us since day one and is 100% hands on with his clients and we never feel lost in the shuffle.”

Adding more music to listener’s current playlist shuffle, The Frontrunnaz are one of the industry’s best-kept secrets making loud noise. The twosome penned the hook and Dria is featured on Will Smith’s nephew, K. Smith’s I Am Santiago Vol. 2 mixtape (“Feels Good To Be Alive”). They also penned and did background vocals on Def Jam recording artist, Logic’s soon to be released debut album and are currently co-executive producing Dallas native, Torsha Lynn’s (@TorshaLynn) project with S1 (@SymbolycOne). The Frontrunnaz are also collaborating with MBK Entertainment artist Daisha on her debut LP and Virgin/EMI recording artist Kieran Alleyne (@KieranAlleyne) whom the duo are working with Dallas producer Slikk (Ariana Grande’s “Loving It”).
