North Carolina Filmmaker Seeks $20,000 in Crowdfunding for Victims of Misfortune Documentary

North Carolina filmmaker creates a thought provoking narrative to showcase the struggle of millions of people in prison and those living in society with criminal records.

Since America’s ‘War on Drugs’ there’s been an explosion of the prison population at a disproportionately high rate, majority people of color. Millions of people in the United States are either in prison, on probation/parole or have a criminal record. This issue is the subject of a feature-length documentary titled Victims of Misfortune: Changing the Pecking Order. The film creator, Levon Hinton gives the audience a thought provoking perspective of the impact of America’s War on Drugs and the systematic oppression of people of color in the United States.
“Victims of Misfortune will boldly confront the problems of America’s criminal justice system. We passionately wanted to create an unfiltered, social documentary with the criminal justice system as a backdrop.” said Levon Hinton.
“Much more than a movie, Victims of Misfortune: Changing the Pecking Order addresses the ‘tough on crime’ movement, and offers solutions to ending mass incarceration and this new racial caste system.”
The production team must raise $20,000 by April 29, 2015 to meet their November 2015 release date. “In order for this crowdfunding campaign to become successful we need it to go viral. We need people to contribute and help spread the word,” said Victims of Misfortune: Changing the Pecking Order Director Levon Hinton.
