Nosh Technologies’ AI powered food stock management app ranks in Top 10 free apps

Nosh Technologies, a spin out tech startup of the University of Essex, U.K., recently launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered smartphone app, nosh, to track food stocks during COVID-19 is now ranked in the top 10 free apps for productivity in the UK’s Google Play Store. Nosh Technologies has recently designed the app based on research, which is proven to deliver better user experience and keep them engaged, pursued at the University of Essex. Company executive has also mentioned that they are bringing in new features to make the app smarter and more beneficial for users.

Scientists from the University of Essex, developed the “nosh” app in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which totally changed most people’s food buying habits – where people are stockpiling groceries to maintain social distancing and reduce the amount of time they have to shop. This meant that households run the risk of wasting more food, especially when they overbuy items with shorter shelf life. The nosh app is capable of reminding the user the expiry date of stocked food, suggests recipes and show buying and food wasting trend to the users so that they can make an informed decision on what food to buy next time. The food buying and wasting trend is evaluated by an in-house AI algorithm developed by the project team. Nosh also integrates shopping list planning in-app.
The project team also founded a tech startup named Nosh Technologies, which has recently updated the user interface (UI) of the nosh app, has ranked in the Top 10 New Free Apps for Productivity in the UK’s Google Play Store. The nosh app is available for both Android and iPhone platforms.
Somdip Dey, co-founder and CEO of Nosh Technologies mentions, “In less than a month of our app’s release we have gained more than 1000 active users. Our food stock management app, nosh, is backed by research pursued at the University and has features which are industry leading. We are also going to introduce new features such as receipt scanning so that users can enter their stocked food easily in the app. We have already developed an AI algorithm, which is capable of reading texts from receipts with an accuracy of 80% on an average, and we are integrating that algorithm in the app to provide the receipt scanning feature.”
