General Motors announced the acquisition of Strobe, an OEwaves spinoff company and an innovator of self-driving car LIDAR technologies, to accelerate GM’s effort in autonomous vehicle development.
Based on the high quality factor (Q) Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) micro-optical resonator technology, Strobe’s automotive LIDAR demonstrated highly linear frequency modulation and narrow linewidth critical for enhanced sensing performance and the technology is capable of chip-scale integration and lower cost required for volume deployment.
Among other OEwaves proprietary technologies and products, they include WGM-based ultra-low phase noise micro-opto-electronic oscillators (OEO)& ultra-narrow linewidth laser sources, high-Q microwave-photonic filters and comb generators, and microwave and laser phase/frequency noise and linewidth measurement systems.
