Kyiv, Ukraine (PRUnderground) May 27th, 2020

On June 13-14 in Ukraine, there is the fifth module of the educational charity project STEM is FEM. The theme of the event is 3D modelling and printing. As the previous time, the module will be held online in order not to endanger the participants due to COVID-19 pandemic. This information was explained by the project initiator, IT investor, partner of Cyprus IT Forum and founder of GenIT Sergey Tokarev.

“What is the best way to get girls interested in STEM career? To let them meet in person women who are already working in these areas and provide an opportunity to immerse themselves into the technical world. In April, STEM is FEM participants developed concepts for robots that can be useful in the fight against coronavirus and its consequences,” says Sergey Tokarev. “This time, they will study 3D modeling and printing. This is another area of STEM that keeps on developing and that can be used in a great number of industries. To make the girls more interested in studying the topic, we decided to give the winner of the next module a 3D printer.”

The second part of the main prize, according to the project initiator, will be a delayed in time ‘surprise’ trip. After the end of the pandemic and once the major industry events are up again, the  grand prix winner will visit one of them.

Girls who will take the second place in the competition will be able to follow the online course “3D Printing Software” from the University of Illinois.

The STEM IS FEM project is a social initiative aimed to increase the number of women in the tech industries in Ukraine. The project aims at motivating schoolgirls who are going to choose a career for their further education, to pay more attention to STEM specialties. To do this, girls are provided with the opportunity to talk to women who work in the particular area, see the work of relevant companies, listen to lectures, take part in workshops and participate in a creative competition.

Any high school girl of any secondary school in Ukraine can take part in the STEM is FEM modules. Qualifying contests for participation in the modules are held on the project website.
