Kyiv, Ukraine (PRUnderground) December 22nd, 2021

On December 16, an exhibition of the Ukrainian educational art project SHE is SCIENCE was opened in Sofia, Bulgaria. The exposition consists of 12 stylized portraits of prominent Ukrainian female scientists and essays about them.

“The essays were selected during the Ukrainian competition, in which 561 girls aged 14 to 21 took part. In their works, the authors wrote about the life of female scientists, their achievements, and reflected on the importance of gender parity in science, says Sergey Tokarev, the initiator of the project SHE is SCIENCE and the founder of GenIT.

In Bulgaria, the exhibition was hosted by the National Polytechnic Museum, and the opening was attended by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria. The project organizers say that for centuries, the achievements of female scientists have been attributed to their male colleagues or wholly ignored. Therefore, Ukraine has decided to rectify the situation. The project representatives believe that every nation and every country has its outstanding female scientists.

“Bulgaria is not an exception. An outstanding chemist, a world-renowned specialist in the chemistry of natural biologically active substances, Vassya Bankova is a great example of a successful scientist. Our goal is to get as many countries as possible involved in promoting their female scientists. This will create many examples for young girls to follow and will benefit gender parity in science,” emphasizes Sergey Tokarev.

The project SHE is SCIENCE is implemented by the charity educational initiative STEM is FEM, which motivates girls to choose a career in technology and science.
