Startup Genome, Global Entrepreneurship Network Partner to Evaluate World’s Top Startup Ecosystems

Survey now open for the next Global Startup Ecosystem Report

Washington, D.C. (PRUnderground) September 20th, 2016

Global Entrepreneurship Network, a platform of programs and initiatives strengthening entrepreneurial ecosystems in more than 160 countries, and Startup Genome, creator of the Global Startup Ecosystem Report based on the Voice of Entrepreneurs, have partnered to launch the latest survey that will fuel the upcoming 2016 report.

GEN_GLOBAL_ENTREPRENEURSHIP_NETWORK.pngEven more ambitious than in 2015, 20,000 startups founders from more than 100 cities are expected to participate in Startup Genome’s global research, along with more than 200 local organizations in 50 member cities.

“Our economies are going through a dramatic shift – the information revolution – similar in magnitude to the industrial revolution,” said JF Gauthier, president of Startup Genome and co-author of the Startup Ecosystem Report series. “Jobs and economic growth will mainly be driven by innovation sectors. Cities and nations can’t afford to watch it happen from the sidelines. Startup Genome works directly with local leaders to pinpoint the most important gaps of their startup ecosystem and build consensus towards action.”

GEN is supporting the survey by tapping into its vast network of entrepreneurs and ecosystem leaders in more than 160 countries. Through its Global Entrepreneurship Research Network, it also helped conduct interviews with founders, investors and industry experts selected by Startup Genome.

“While there has been a tremendous increase in interest in helping new firms start and scale, there is actually not much data that illustrates the most effective interventions at the ecosystem level,” said Jonathan Ortmans, president of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. “We are proud to partner with Startup Genome and work toward a fuller appreciation of the underlying elements that are critical for growth everywhere.”

The Global Startup Ecosystem Report ranks the world’s top 20 startup ecosystems and assesses member cities along five major components – performance, funding, talent, market reach and startup experience. It factors in quantitative data from more than 11,000 survey respondents, insights from interviews of ecosystem leaders in each city and other sources of data from partner organizations.

The top 10 ecosystems in the 2015 report were (in order): Silicon Valley, New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Tel Aviv, London, Chicago, Seattle, Berlin and Singapore.

The new survey will be open for responses until the end of October 2016 globally, and later in selected cities. The report is expected to be released at the beginning of 2017. The survey is now open, and individuals can participate here.
