According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), spending during this year’s Black Friday sales season is likely to exceed £700 billion, representing a 4.2% annual increase on last year.
The Black Friday sales week has transitioned over the years from an in-store sales day to a week long event with purchases just as likely to be made online as in physical stores. A survey by the National Retail Federation highlighted that last year 109 million Americans shopped online over the Black Friday weekend compared with 99 million who went in-store, underlining e-commerce’s growing importance to retailers.
Most retailers start their Black Friday sales on Monday 20th November and keep deals running until the following Monday (Cyber Monday).
