Girl Gone Gray, An Online Newsletter for the Middle-Aged Everywoman, Launches

Girl Gone Gray is a new online e-newsletter written from the perspective of a woman of a certain age, but its author says that many of the stories have a general appeal.

The e-newsletter features slice-of-life and sometimes larger-than-life stories, fleeting thoughts, big and little ideas, and poignant essays – along with some quirkiness and ageless wisdom sprinkled into the mix. The content is a combination of created and curated.

As a trained “nose” who has formally studied botanical essences in the U.S. and France as an avocation, Girl Gone Gray’s author, M. Ann McMillan, often writes about flowers and scent in the natural world. But, as a former style editor who has covered New York Fashion Week and other stylish events, she writes about fashion and beauty, too. She also covers food, faith, entertaining, and whatever else is on her mind – like unusual tea. Upcoming stories will focus on detox foot pads and what it’s like for a makeup enthusiast who has worn foundation, powder, blush, and the works all of her adult life, to go bare-faced for seven straight days.

Girl Gone Gray is kind of an ‘all over the place’ newsletter,” admits its author, who adds, “but there’s organization to the chaos.”

The author says her goal is to keep the stories informative, aspirational, inspirational, and often humorous “because aging gracefully requires a sense of humor.”

A new tale of some sort appears every Friday. Girl Gone Gray is a subscription-based newsletter that sits on the open-source Ghost publishing platform. Still, McMillan makes some of her stories available for everyone to read without becoming a paying subscriber. Check it out at https://girl-gone-gray.ghost.io.
