San Antonio based author and World War One historian Scott R. Schoner is completing a 20 year project that will honor the men and women of the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F.) who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. This listing of the nearly 80,000 overseas war dead will span 3 volumes, and will be the first comprehensive record of its kind ever published. Previously prepared typewritten lists by the U.S. Army following the war were never published, and these lists also omit the sacrifices of the nearly 3,000 U.S. Marines who died in service in the 4th Marine Brigade, fighting alongside their Army compatriots. Schoner’s work will finally publish the names, units and dates of death of all known fatalities of the A.E.F.
This new resource should be of help and interest to historians, genealogists, militaria collectors, and people with ancestors who served in or gave their lives during the World War. The finished product, running at approximately 1,600 pages, will also include information about the American Expeditionary Forces and American casualties during the war to help orient those with little experience with military history.
Schoner’s previous publications include reprinting the 28 volume “Summary of Operations in the World War” series, featuring a volume on each combat division, to which he added over 1,300 previously unpublished terrain photographs to accompany the text. His most recent book is “Campaign and Service Credits for World War One Service,” a volume which describes the development of unit campaign credits and lists the official credits awarded to units for World War One service, as well as records the service of over 1,000 units the U.S. Army did not properly credit in general orders.
All of Schoner’s 33 previously published books on World War One can be purchased through Amazon.
